Not Me But You

Not me but you .....is what was taught to her in  a Volunteers program at her university . Taking this statement with a deep mark within her life she aimed at helping as many people as she could within a days time. Besides wasting her precious time and being around with her friends at teenage hangouts she opted to give her time into voluntary service at the age of 16.

With deep compassion towards helping her first voluntary service was to empower girl child & women who were affected by HIV/Aids through creative activities & Dance sessions   at FXB,( Jaipur & Goa) India  http://www.fxb.org/programs/india/.for 2yrs

Later with this experience she which she really enjoyed she aimed at continuing to help many more . She then joined Don Bosco High school,Mumbai where she volunteered in training children and youth for 5 consequent years in dance and theatre. http://www.donboscomatunga.com/

Besides this at that moment she was pursuing her degree in Human Development and improvising her methodologies to help children . She applied into a 2year Volunteers Course in National Social Service Scheme in the same university. She gave her valuable time and services beyond 150 hours which were expected of her to complete in the course. She participated in different Rallys, Poster Competitions, Skits, Awareness programs ,Street plays, Intercollegiate contests, Social work surveys etc to serve the society at large . She represented SNDT university & National Social Service Scheme at the Maharastra Republic Day Celebration Parade . She was awarded by her college on making their university proud. With this experience she said " I am a true NSS volunteer and feel proud to represent all the work i did with my selfless dedication for the bringing in change in our society" http://www.bmncollege.com/

·
Even After Completing of her Volunteers Course at University she continued her mission at Kalyan deep centre for Specially challenged adults & children . She helped them creating designs for education , art & Craft. She one month there helping them to dance, sing and live life with fun.

Alongside she created child friendly classrooms for kindergarten children from the slums at Mahila Mandals(womens clubs),  Creshces & Nurseries While studying child psychology as her major she has worked with  Prangan Nursery for children with behaviourial issues .

Being on vacations with friends and relaxing was a boring option for her. On her outings to the country sides she would spend her mind telling stories to children, distributing choclates and teaching children a few morals & values in that moment.

Being an Adventure Sports Lover was just not enough for her . With her first mountaineering camp to the Himalayas she aimed that all the vulnerable children should get an opportunity to come close to nature , refresh and relax in life . To help these children understand the importance of saving enviornment she joined Mountain Lovers Organization as a Peer Leader and volunteered with them . She made it a point that she would find sponsors for minimum 10 children  and give them the best weekend they can trekking . With learning to respect the enviornment she aslo involved children in rapelling, rock climbing, tent pitching and other such activities.

With a 5 years experience in working at Don Bosco High school she realised the importance she should give to children from poor backgrounds and the ones who really need help. Guided by Salesian priests she was introduced to Shelter Don Bosco a residential home for street children .
( www.shelterdonbosco.org ) She spent 5 1/2 years volunteering here teaching boys how to read, write and speak, training them in dance and art activities, helping in events ,organizing camps and helping boys to cope up with their life's situations. She became a mother, sister and the most dearest friend to the street boys .She became an active volunteer who committedly came to shelter everyday evening after her college 3 hrs a day.She also voluntered at  Maria Ashiana ( Therapeutic centre for street children ) Lonavala (india)
http://www.donboscomariaashiana.com/ and empowered street boys who were rescued from the streets of Mumbai.

It was this Phase of her life where under the gudiance of Salesians priests and Don Bosco Organizations in Mumbai  she truely felt that she should take up social work as her career for life and help these vulnerable children . With children really being fond of her positive vibes loved to spend hours together listening & learning different things in life from her . Her identity completely changed into someone who children always looked up to in times of sharing their joys and sorrows. She seriously took up her life towards this wonderful journey from Not Me but you ........

To take this experience further she took up a Volunteers's course at Tata Institute of Social Sciences
At a later stage she took up a job as a Volunteer Manager Training Indian & Foreign volunteers at Shelter Don Bosco . Along with training college ,university ,corporate , national & international volunteers she aslo trained Salesian brothers . At the moment she is  Creating a Volunteers Manual  to train Indian and foreign volunteers at Don Bosco Research centre Mumbai .She has continued to train volunteers and make sure that they become committed volunteers    who really will bring major differences in society .
